Themes and Appearance
eConnect ships in a dark theme and includes a light one. Switch between them from the title bar.
Choosing a theme
The theme control in the title bar offers Light, Dark and Match device — the last following whatever your operating system is set to, including when it changes at dusk. The change is immediate and applies to every part of the application, including pop-out windows already open.
Your choice follows your account, not the machine: sign in at another desk, or in a browser on a machine you have never used, and eConnect comes up the way you left it.
Which to use
Dark is the default because most eConnect work happens in rooms kept deliberately dim — control rooms, surveillance offices — where a bright interface is tiring and reflects off the screens around it. It also keeps attention on video and images rather than on the application around them.
Light is the better choice in a bright office, or on a projector where dark backgrounds wash out.
Neither hides anything: every view, control and colour cue exists in both.
Colour and meaning
Colour carries meaning in a few places, and it survives the theme change:
- Alert severity is colour-coded, so a high-priority alert reads as one at a glance
- Charts use a consistent palette across modules, so a series keeps its colour between views
- Status — healthy, busy, failed — uses the same colours throughout
If colour alone is hard for you to rely on, note that these are all paired with text: severity is labelled, status is named, and chart series carry a legend.
Printing and reports
PDF reports use their own layout designed for paper and do not follow your theme, so a report generated from the dark theme still prints on white. See PDF Reports and The Security and Access Report.
Video appearance
How video is composited on screen is a separate setting from the theme, and only matters in the desktop client. If video renders oddly — tearing, blank tiles, or overlapping windows — that setting is the one to look at, not the theme. See Video Rendering Settings.
Other display preferences
Your own profile carries preferences that affect how information is shown, including a 24-hour clock and your time zone. See Your Profile.
