Detections and Zones

A detection is one sighting. A zone turns a set of detections into a visit, with an entry, an exit and a duration.

The Detections tab of a subject's profile, listing every sighting

Detections

Every recognition produces a detection carrying the captured image, the detector that saw it, and when. They accumulate on a subject or plate profile as the history of that person or vehicle.

Read detections for patterns rather than events. One sighting says somebody was there; a hundred say when they come, how often, and which entrance they favour — which is usually the actual question.

View detection sequence follows a movement through the property, and View associated cameras opens the footage behind a detection.

The review window that opens has an Open in new window control in its header. Use it the moment you know you will want to compare: an ejected viewer stays open and keeps playing while you open the next detection in a second one, where the window on its own would have replaced what you were looking at. Each ejected viewer is independent, so several can be open at once, and the time you spent reviewing is recorded when the window closes exactly as it is for the panel.

Duration of visit

New in version 11. Face recognition now records how long a subject was observed, not merely that they were detected at an instant.

That does two things: it gives you a genuine dwell time, and it makes matching more reliable, because a sustained observation is stronger evidence than a single frame.

Zones

A zone measures time spent somewhere, using cameras at its entry and exit points.

ConfigurationBehaviour
Dedicated in/out camerasOne camera sees arrivals, another departures
Bidirectional camerasOne camera serves as both

Once configured, a subject entering and later leaving produces a zone visit with a duration.

Reading zone visits

The Subject Zone Visits section shows visits with their entry and exit, and reports for the zone show visits across everybody.

Two markers you will see, and what they usually mean:

MarkerUsually
No EntryThe person was seen leaving but never entering — they arrived by an uncovered route, or the entry read failed
No ExitThey are still inside, or the exit read failed

Neither is necessarily an error. On a property with several ways in, incomplete visits are normal and the figures should be read with that in mind.

View entry cameras and View exit cameras open the footage for each end of a visit, which is how you confirm an unusual duration is real.

What zones are good for

  • Dwell time — how long people actually stay
  • Staff patterns — time in an area across a shift
  • Unusual durations — the visit far longer or shorter than typical
  • Occupancy — who is currently inside

The outlier is the useful reading. A visit of eight hours where the norm is twenty minutes is worth a look, and it is visible without anybody watching in real time.

Reports

Zone activity exports as a Zone Visit Report PDF, for reviews, compliance or an investigation. See PDF Reports.

Configuration

Zones, and the cameras defining them, are set up in Module Settings.
