Pinning a Chart to a Dashboard

When the assistant produces a chart you will want again, pin it. It becomes a widget on one of your dashboards and refreshes there, so a question you asked once keeps answering itself.

Pinning

Use the pin control on the chart in the conversation, choose which dashboard it should go to, and confirm. The chart appears there as an Ace Chart widget.

You can pin to an existing dashboard or create one for the purpose. If you are assembling a set of related answers, put them on one dashboard as you go rather than tidying up afterwards.

What gets pinned

The question, not the picture. The widget re-runs the underlying request and draws current figures, so a chart pinned on Monday shows Monday's data on Monday and Friday's on Friday.

That makes pinning useful for anything you would otherwise re-ask on a schedule — nightly voids, weekly visit counts, detections by entrance.

When pinning is the right move

Pin when the answer is a measure you want to keep watching. A one-off enquiry does not need a dashboard; a number you would check again next week does.

For a definition you need to be exact, repeatable and shareable — something that will drive reports or be handed to colleagues — build a saved query and a Graph widget instead. A saved query is a stated definition; a pinned chat chart is a convenience.

Managing pinned charts

A pinned chart behaves like any other widget: move it, resize it, rename it, remove it. See Adding and Arranging Widgets and Ace Chart Widget.

Removing the widget does not affect the conversation it came from, and deleting the conversation does not affect the widget.

Who can see it

A pinned chart is subject to the same permissions as everything else. Colleagues who open a dashboard containing one see it only if they are entitled to the underlying data — so pinning does not widen access. See What Ace Can and Cannot See.
