Images and Attachments
You can attach an image or a text file to a conversation and ask about it. This turns the assistant from something that reads your database into something that also reads what you put in front of it.
Attaching
Use Attach a file in the chat input, then ask your question. Remove attachment clears it if you picked the wrong one.
| Type | Examples | What it is for |
|---|---|---|
| Images | Photographs, screenshots, still frames | Describing, comparing, or searching against your subjects |
| Text files | Logs, exports, notes | Summarising, extracting, cross-referencing |
Ask AI about this image
Images already in eConnect do not need attaching by hand. Where you see Ask AI about this image beside a photograph — on a detection, a subject photo, a captured frame — it opens the assistant with that image already attached.
This is the quickest route from "who is that?" to an answer, and it avoids saving the image out and uploading it again.
What it can tell you about a picture
With a vision-capable model configured, the assistant can describe what is in an image, pick out detail you are asking about, and compare it against what it can read from your data.
That last part is the useful bit. "Is the person in this photo one of our banned subjects?" is a question that combines the image with your enrolled subjects — see Faces and Plates in Chat, which covers running a real face search from an attachment.
Image understanding requires a vision model to be configured. If images are being ignored, that is the likely reason — an administrator sets it under AI Configuration.
Text files
Attach an export, a log or a list and ask the assistant to summarise it, pull out particular values, or compare it against what eConnect holds. Cross-referencing an external list against your own data is a common and genuinely time-saving use.
Keep attachments small and relevant
An attachment is sent as part of the question, so a large file makes the request slower and more expensive. Crop an image to the part that matters and trim a file to the relevant section — you will get a faster and usually a better answer, because the assistant is not weighing irrelevant material.
Privacy
The same guardrails apply to attachments as to everything else: camera credentials are never included, and personal data is filtered before a request leaves eConnect. Where your provider runs on your own network, attachments never leave the premises at all.
Be deliberate about what you attach. An image you upload becomes part of the conversation, and conversations are audited. See What Ace Can and Cannot See.
