Acknowledging and Ignoring
Every alert ends one of two ways, and the difference matters more than it looks. Both are recorded against your name, and a later review reads them differently.
Which to use
| Action | Means |
|---|---|
| Acknowledge | I have seen this, it is real, and I am dealing with it |
| Ignore | I have seen this and it needs no action |
Acknowledge takes responsibility. Ignore records a judgement that there was nothing to do. Neither is a way of making an alert go away without deciding — that distinction is exactly what a supervisor is reading for afterwards.
If an alert is a false match, Ignore is correct. If it is genuine and you are acting on it, Acknowledge.
Reviewing before deciding
Two actions open the evidence rather than closing the alert:
Review data opens the record behind the alert — the subject, the plate, the transaction — so you can see history rather than a single detection.
This action is recorded in the audit trail.
Opening the video is recorded separately, so a later review can tell whether footage was actually looked at before a decision was made.
This action is recorded in the audit trail.
Acknowledgement that is required
Your administrator may require alerts to be acknowledged rather than allowed to lapse, and may set how long an acknowledged alert stays on screen before closing. Where that is configured, alerts wait for a person rather than timing out — see Alert Settings.
Keep this alert active holds one open when you need longer with it, and Cancel auto-close stops one closing while you are still working.
Bulk actions
Ignore all and Disregard All close a burst in one action. They are audited the same way as individual ignores, which means a bulk dismissal of twenty alerts is twenty recorded decisions attributed to you.
That is the right tool for a known-noisy period and the wrong one for a queue you have not looked at.
Auto-acknowledge
Alerts can be acknowledged automatically, which is appropriate for low-severity classes you have decided need recording rather than attention. It is a per-user setting — see Alert Preferences.
Be deliberate: an automatically acknowledged alert is recorded as acknowledged by you.
