Not Recommended — MCP Support is Unstable

ChatGPT's MCP integration is still in early development and does not yet provide a smooth experience. ChatGPT will prompt for user approval before every single tool call, which becomes extremely tedious when querying eConnect data — a single report can require dozens of tool calls.

We do not recommend using ChatGPT Desktop or ChatGPT Web for eConnect MCP at this time. Until OpenAI allows tools to run without per-call interruptions, the experience is impractical for everyday use.

We recommend Claude Desktop instead, which supports automatic tool approval and provides a seamless conversational experience.

ChatGPT Desktop Setup

The following instructions are provided for reference. ChatGPT Desktop can technically connect to the eConnect MCP Server, but expect frequent approval prompts that interrupt the flow of every query.

Prerequisites
  • ChatGPT Desktop installed (version that supports MCP Servers)
  • A ChatGPT account (Plus, Team, or Enterprise)
  • Your eConnect auth token — see Getting an Auth Token

Step 1: Add the eConnect MCP Server

  1. Open ChatGPT Desktop
  2. Go to Settings (gear icon or menu)
  3. Scroll down and enable Developer Mode
  4. Once enabled, click Create App
  5. Fill in the app details:
    • Tool Name: eConnect
    • Description: eConnect MCP server for face detections, LPR, POS, and casino data
    • MCP Server URL: https://mcp.econnect.ai/mcp
    • Authentication: None
  6. Check the box confirming you understand you want to continue
  7. Click Create

Once created, start a new chat — ChatGPT will discover the available eConnect tools.

Step 2: Log In with Your Auth Token

In your new chat, paste your auth token to authenticate. You can use the Copy with Prompt text from the Auth Token page, or type:

"Log in to eConnect using this token: [paste your token here]"

ChatGPT will call the eConnect login tool — you will be prompted to approve this tool call (and every subsequent one).

Step 3: Start Querying

Once logged in, try some example prompts:

"Show me the installed eConnect plugins"
"Find face detections from the last hour"
"Show me the last 20 license plate reads"
"Get POS exceptions from today"
"List active casino table sessions"

Be prepared to approve each tool call individually as ChatGPT executes them.
